Ushuaia & Calafate and Cruise to the Glaciers



ITINERARY:

Day 1
Departure from the airport with destination: Ushuaia. Reception and transfer to the assigned Hotel. Rest of the day free to visit the commercial area and the coastal driveway of the most suthern city in the world.

Day 2
USHUAIA – Breakfast and excursion to National Park Tierra del Fuego: Tierra del Fuego National Park was created in 1969 with the aim of protecting the portion of subantarctic forests farthest south together with the Beagle Channel. Its total surface is 63.000 has ). The park has 6 km. of sea coast over the Beagle Channel that form the beautiful Lapataia bay . In some cases you can practise diving and submarine photography. The coast offers a variety of environments, such as coves and peninsulas defining beaches and cliffs, an ideal shelter for sea fauna. The park has numerous traces of Yamana inhabitants prior to the arrival of white men to America. There are several parts in the park where you can find hummocks of piles of mussel-shells and bones accumulated together with utensiles. This park treasures the richest testimonies of the first human groups on the island of Tierra del Fuego before the arrival of white men: the Selk'nam or Onas, the Haush or Manek'enk, the Alakaluf and the Yamana or Yahgans. Back to Hotel. Lodging.

Day 3
USHUAIA - EL CALAFATE: Breakfast and transfer to Ushuaia ’s airport to take a fight to El Calafate. Reception and transfer to Hotel. Lodging.

Day 4
EL CALAFATE: Breakast. Excursion Minitrekking on Perito Moreno’s Glacier: The excursion starts at the Port located at ‘Bajo de las Sombras' (Under the Shadows) Bay, - around 7 km before the Glacier viewpoint – Where you get on board to cross Rico Lake, up to the southeast coast and then around 20 - minute navigation with a view of the south wall of Perito Moreno Glacier. After the landing we go to the refuge where the guides organise the groups and then we start a walk around the bank of the Lake of around 20 minutes up to the Glacier. The ice surface on which we will walk is uneven, but it is firm and safe. You will receive explanations about the flora, fauna and general Glaciology about the region. You will also have information about the singular phenomenon of the breaking of the Glacier. Finally, we will return to the refuge going through the thick ‘magallanico' wood, where the visitors have lunch contemplating a beautiful view. Once lunch has finished we return to the Port, where the bus is waiting to transport us to the Mirador del Glaciar (viewpoint) and the footbridges, where you will be able to stay for an hour. Then we will return to El Calafate. Return to Hotel. Lodging.

Day 5
EL CALAFATE: Leal Cruise: Embark: Mon - Wed – Fri. Transfer from El Calafate to Puerto Bandera (50 km) at 8 AM. After boarding the crew is introduced and an informative talk is given. At 9 a.m. the boat departs heading north to Punta Avellaneda across the "Brazo Norte" of "Lago Argentino". The first icebergs to appear indicate the closeness to Upsala Glacier, one of the largest in the national park, with a width of almost 7 km. In the Canal de las Americas, lunch is served while enjoying a beautiful view. Night aboard: Framed by the colors of the sunset, passengers will admire the Spegazzini glacier, a large ice river that descends through a rocky slope falling over the lake, emphasizing its high walls. At "Puerto Las Vacas", we anchor and passengers can gather around the fire to share a drink before dinner. A clear night can be ideal to observe the stars.

Day 6
EL CALAFATE - BUENOS AIRES: Disembark: Tue - Thu – Sat. After a delicious breakfast, passengers cruise across the "Canal de los Tempanos" up to Bahia Alemana where lunch is served. The craft continues its navigation until it reaches Perito Moreno Glacier, where awe-inspiring chunks of ice of all shapes and sizes crumble, causing amazement and delight. The exclusiveness of being there at the right moment, with no other audience than the passengers of "Leal", is the greatest reward. Return to Puerto Bandera. Disembark at 5 p.m. and transfer to El Calafate’s airport to take the flight to Buenos Aires.
